The Linen Series works for this past summer (2018) were actually several unfinished canvases. For example, the "lace-like" effect of the floral pattern was applied with pre-stenciled rubber rollers that are used to create DIY wallpaper and textile pattern designs. I'm attracted to the decorative and interior design world, the colors are picked directly from pre-made color swatches in hardware stores. My newest love is chalk paint because it's easy to manipulate, layers beautifully with acrylic and oil, and comes in unique colors that would be challenge for me to premix on my own. I tend to work very fast so this type of process is exciting to me. For this Linen Series, "Violet" is one of the first where I experiment with pre-made stencils, also from craft stores, that are used to decorate DIY projects at home. Here, just like the rubber rollers, I use the stencils as their own visual language like a brush. My work at this point, tends to be multi-layered, rich with abstract, "painterly" mark-making, watercolor-inspired washes and "blobs," and the structure of patterned shapes.
